Winemaker Note
Jean Foillard needs no introduction, but here is one anyway: he is one of the Gang of Four, the Beaujolais growers who followed Jules Chauvet back toward old vines, native yeasts, minimal sulfur and no shortcuts, and in doing so rewrote what the region could be. Morgon is his home ground, but Fleurie is the cru people reach for when they want perfume, and Foillard's is exactly that, the most lifted and floral wine in his lineup rather than the most gripping. Farming is natural, fermentation is slow and semi-carbonic, and nothing at all is rushed. Serve it with a light chill. It tends to disappear quickly.
A dark, intriguing wine from old vines. Warm earth and ripe raspberries dominate at first glance, with peony and pepper shining through as it awakens.
