Winemaker Notes
The Santenay Vieilles Vignes 2023 from Domaine Justin Girardin is the most representative and faithful expression of the domaine's identity, an assemblage of three distinct Santenay parcels unified by their age, exposure and clayey character, creating a Pinot Noir of elegance, finesse and aromatic spontaneity that perfectly embodies the signature of this vigneron of thirteen generations.
The colour is a brilliant ruby with cherry highlights, of fine intensity. The nose is delicate and immediately expressive: spontaneous and generous fragrances of red and dark fruits, cherry, griottine, blackberry and raspberry, assert themselves naturally and seduce through their frankness, embellished with a light floral touch and a hint of sweet spices. On the palate, delicacy and finesse dominate from the outset: the texture is full and elegant, the tannins are silky and of great finesse, arising from an extraction conducted with rigour, cold maceration for five to seven days to extract primary aromas, rare punching-down in favour of frequent pump-overs to preserve the supple delicacy of the substance. The finish charms with its persistent floral note and mineral freshness, prolonging the wine with a lightness and grace typical of Santenay at its best. A wine accessible now in all its fruity liveliness, and capable of fine evolution over five to eight years.
