92 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
In the bottle with the dark frosted glass, the 2020 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is a rich and voluptuous wine with layers of dark fruit, baked plum and sweet barbecue spice. This air-dried blend of 55% Corvina Veronese, 25% Corvinone and 20% Rondinella maintains a classic Amarone profile with moderate complexity and a more approachable 15% alcohol content (which remains on the low end of this high-octane category of reds). There is a flurry of bitter and sweet spice on the close. Cesari counts over 100 hectares of hillside vineyards with different soil profiles ranging from 150 to 500 meters in elevation. This affords the winemaking team plenty of excellent sites to choose from.
91 Points James Suckling
A focused, driven and dense red with notes of dark plums, mulberries, warm spices and bark. Full-bodied with chewy tannins, it is structured and concentrated with ample texture. Rich fruit mingles beautifully with the spices. It has a compact finish with impressive length.
Winemaker Notes
Amarone is one of Italy’s most prestigious red wines with a unique production method exclusive to the region. The bouquet of Cesari’s flagship wine is marked by cherry and prune aromas and jammy notes. Toasted nuances and hints of vanilla follow in this full, warm, harmonious red. A long and persistent finish is defined by bold tannins that elegantly coat the palate. Produced from dried grapes cultivated in the historic Classico area of the appellation, Cesari Amarone is extensively aged in a combination of French and Slavonian oak barrels for a total of three years following fermentation in stainless steel tanks.
