Blend: 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 6% Mourvèdre, 4% Cinsault
94-95 Points James Suckling
Impressive fragrance and freshness are married to deep mulberries and ripe strawberries, and all this is wrapped around an ample tannin structure on the medium-bodied palate. Plenty of drive at the long, quite compact finish.
93 Points Wine Spectator
A lovely, seductive version, with full ripeness yet balanced restraint to the round, warm notes of red licorice and cherry, flecked with lavender and vanilla bean. A stream of graphite matches the ripeness, making for a perfumed, incense-driven, tangy finish, with dried herbs, turmeric and earth. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault.
91-93 Jeb Dunnuck
Tasted as a final blend, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Télégramme is classic stuff all the way, offering beautiful black raspberry and darker cherry fruit, medium-bodied richness, a round, layered, elegant mouthfeel, and some classic Châteauneuf du Pape peppery garrigue, violet, and lavender nuances. It's going to drink nicely right out of the gate.
96 Points Decanter
Full, generous and broad. Acids are bright and vibrant, and there's a fine but dense weft of tannins through the wine. Great energy and salinity this year, this is particularly fine and balanced, with plenty of concentration and a long finish. All from La Crau and fermented in tronconic wood barrels. Élevage in foudre. Oldest Grenache bunches aren't destemmed.
Winemaker Notes
The domaine’s old vines in the terroir of La Crau produce some of the most exciting Grenache in the world, and the select blending of their other native grapes, along with a long, patient aging process in large, oval foudre casks, produces the magic of Vieux Télégraphe. This classic opens with a voluptuous aroma that gives and gives—it is striking because of its charm and floral notes. How many Châteauneufs can boast of those two traits?
