Reduced on the nose and somewhat clenched on the palate, there is nonetheless bounding, underlying energy here. Crackling with zesty citrus peels, crushed stones and yellow plum peels, the tightly-wound finish has good staying power. This should age beautifully. This comes from a large, 4.5 parcel in Chapelot.
91 Points Inside Burgundy
Pale lemon with a lime inflection. The nose is buttery but not lactic, perhaps just an expression of Montée de Tonnerre’s summery side. An interesting quality of fruit in the mouth, with a slightly stricter finish. It isn’t in place at the moment, but there is plenty in the component parts to like. This should come together. Three stars now but we may be surprised on the up side. Drink from 2028-2035.
90-92 Points Vinous
The 2023 Chablis Montée de Tonnerre 1er Cru has an intriguing bouquet with dried honey and light scents of wet clay. The palate is very well balanced with a strict opening. Quite fresh with a streak of bitter lemon that lends tension on the finish. I would afford this a couple of years in bottle.
