Grand Suisse Le Gruyère AOP is a traditional Swiss Alpine cheese with a particularly versatile flavor profile. The producer description highlights butter, nuts, grass, and brothy/meaty notes, with a rich, creamy texture and a gentle sweetness.

First choice: Riesling. The combination of Gruyère's richness and saltiness with Riesling's acidity and fruit makes an exceptionally balanced pairing. The official Le Gruyère pairing guidance specifically recommends demi-sec German Riesling with Le Gruyère AOP.

WinePairingWhy it works
Riesling⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Acidity cuts the richness; slight sweetness complements the cheese
Chasselas/Fendant⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Classic Swiss pairing; delicate enough not to overwhelm Gruyère
Chardonnay⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐Particularly good with lightly oaked Chardonnay; mirrors the buttery flavors
Pinot Noir⭐⭐⭐⭐½Red fruit and restrained tannin complement the nutty cheese
Champagne⭐⭐⭐⭐½Acidity and bubbles cleanse the palate
Amarone⭐⭐⭐⭐Excellent with strongly aged Gruyère; richness matches richness
