93 Points Falstaff
Bright, dark ruby red colour. Nuances of ripe heart cherries on the nose, subtle hints of dried plums and rose petals, also reminiscent of cinnamon. Fresh and balanced on the palate, clear, with beautiful fruit and great juiciness, lovely length!
92 Points Vinous
The 2022 Chianti Classico Riserva Il grigio da San Felice is a bold wine. Super-ripe dark cherry, menthol, licorice, chocolate and incense show all the natural intensity of this very dry, warm growing season. Readers should expect an unctuous style. The 2022 spent 22 months in wood, mostly cask, with about 20% tonneaux and barriques.
90 Points Wine Spectator
A lithe, vibrant red, this features cherry, strawberry, eucalyptus, iron and scrub notes. Turns sinewy on the finish, with a light astringency, yet there’s plenty of fruit. Drink now through 2035. 20,000 cases made, 4,200 cases imported.
Winemaker Notes
Deep ruby red. Rich, long-lingering aromas are redolent of violets and wild red berry fruit. Il Grigio is a full-bodied wine, lean and firm, with succulent tannins and a tangy acidity. Ideal when accompanying meat-sauced first courses, roast pigeon, grilled steak.
2021 vintage experienced a regular seasonal trend, with spring rains promoting vegetative growth and ensuring water reserves for the summer. There were slight delays in bud growth due to cooler temperatures after Easter, but without negative impacts on plant health. The summer was dry with only sporadic rainfall, but the accumulated water reserves prevented plant stress. Summer temperatures were moderate, without excessive heat waves. From late August, nighttime temperatures dropped significantly, aiding grape ripening. The harvest began around September 20, and the grapes collected were healthy and of high quality.
