91 Points Decanter
Red apple and peach on the nose. Fresh from the 2024 vintage, it's lightly effervescent on the tip of the tongue, with a touch of white pepper spice. Savoury and elegant, it exudes white peach and fennel, lifted by a crunchy green fruit note. Grapefruit and yuzu lead to a zingy finish. This is the entry-level wine from Miraval, a Provence estate purchased by Hollywood stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in 2011.
90 Points James Suckling
This opens with a clean and refreshing nose of subtle red berries, tangerine peel and cherry blossoms, following through to a medium-bodied, delicate and refreshing palate that lingers, with zesty spiciness and mineral tension. Drink now. Screw cap.
History
Château Miraval is a wine producer in the southern French region of Provence. While it is known for its intense, flinty rosé wines made from Grenache and Cinsaut, it is perhaps better known for its association with Hollywood film stars Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The estate made simple Vin de Pays wines until the 1990s, when viticulture was modernized. Pitt and Jolie acquired the estate in 2009, and were married there in 2014. Previously, Miraval had housed a major recording studio where the likes of Pink Floyd and Sting recorded songs – a wine was even named for the former. Château Miraval's wines are now made in partnership with the Perrin family. The 500 hectare (1200 acre) estate features a rustic château, olive groves and a 30 hectare (74 acre) vineyard. The wines are made from a mix of estate-grown and contract-grown fruit. Miraval makes four wines – the flagship Côtes de Provence Rosé, two white wines made from Rolle, and a red wine which falls under the Vin de France designation. Created as a tribute to the recording studio where Pink Floyd recorded 'the Wall', this wine symbolizes the spirit of Art de Vivre around the Mediterranean.
Winemaker Notes
The vintage In Provence, the 2024 vintage was marked by complex climatic conditions, requiring constant vigilance and attention in the vineyard. Frost in May, hail in July and then a cool and slightly rainy September favoured slow ripening of the grapes. This allowed us to obtain aromatic and fresh wines, with a well-preserved natural acidity, but with paler colour than usual, a consequence of a lower ph. The first tastings reveal fresh and dense aromas, accompanied by a nice complexity on the palate, full of flavours and saline at the same time. Tangy and fruity, without any harshness, particularly pleasant and easy to drink. Terroir Studio by Miraval is strongly influenced by the sea sprays and the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea. These salty soils give the wine a unique character and an almost iodized finish. Ageing All the varieties are vinified by direct pressing. The Cinsault and Tibouren in Stainless steel vats. The Grenache & Rolle are partially vinified in tanks. This ovoid shape gives rise to a natural convection movement that suspends the lees creating the same effect as a batonnage and gives the wine a lot of structure. Tasting Seductive clear and bright colour of a very pale-pink with pastel reflections. All in finesse and elegance, the nose offers a superb aromatic bouquet with notes of small red fruit and cherry blossom. With a beautiful liveliness, the ample and racy mouth prolongs this refined character with seductive aromas of blood-oranges and redcurrants, perfectly balanced by the freshness of a pretty mineral structure and just a hint of bitterness. The long finish prolongs the tasty aromas of this fresh and elegant wine, with a beautiful balance.
