97 Points Vinous
The 2023 Pinot Noir Antikythera delivers a mesmerizing mix of flowery underbrush, olive and sage that gives way to blood orange, blackberries and a whiff of chalk dust. It is youthfully poised yet complex, with an ethereal feel and depths of mineral-soaked wild berry fruit, taking on a nearly crunchy feel toward the close. Structured and incredibly long, the 2023 Pinot Noir Antikythera leaves sweet tannins and a subtle tangerine tinge as the senses salivate for more. Lose this in the cellar and reap the rewards.
Winemaker Note
Antikythera is made entirely from our own little, rocky vineyard in the northernmost part of the Eola-Amity Hills. The wine, like the site, is a bit of an anomaly — it tends to defy characterization. There is, in every vintage, an astonishingly extreme, high-pitched aroma of cinnamon-stick coupled with a non-fruit intensity and Barolo-like tannin that speak neither to the Willamette Valley nor in some ways, pinot noir. Intensely mineral, it bears, somehow, a seemingly synesthetic resemblance to the ground from which it was born.
