Drink Window: 2026 - 2050
96 Points Wine Enthusiast
Aromas of sandalwood, rosewood and damson plums lead the nose of this Barbaresco. As the wine develops notes of violet and dark spices emerge. There is a seriousness to the palate. The dark fruits are standing at attention as savory flavors fill out the ranks. Firm but not overpowering the tannins show grace yet remain taut and polished ready for review. A stunning wine. The lovely 2019 Pora Riserva from Produttori del Barbaresco offers delicate scents recalling ripe red fruit, culinary spice, new leather and violet while the refined palate features juicy raspberry, liquor soaked cherry and licorice. Tightly-knit, velvety tannins provide enveloping support. Pora is known for its softer tannins and smoother character thank to its more fertile soil, and the these traits come through even in 2019, a vintage known for yielding wines with youthful austerity
95 Points Jeb Dunnuck
Deep red in color, the 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Pora has a stunningly layered and pure nose and a distilled feel, with aromas of raspberry liqueur, fresh lavender, wet stone, sweet earth, and fresh sage. It offers wonderful energy on the palate, with ripe, velvety tannins, and even though it's medium-bodied, it's not lacking for depth, revealing notes of tea leaf and bergamot on its long finish. It's going to be an age-worthy wine to drink 2026-2046.
94 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The Produtori del Barbaresco 2019 Barbaresco Riserva Pora represents a classic vintage that was cooler compared to 2020. This results in medium-plus concentration and a velvety texture. The bouquet shows blackberry, spice and sweet earth. This is a pretty wine with some grit to the tannins but otherwise shows a soft and accessible personality. More oxidative in character, this is great for near or medium-term drinking.
94 Points Wine Spectator
Full of cherry, strawberry, rose, stone and spice flavors, this tightly knit red is both open and muscular, with refined tannins exerting themselves on the finish. Broad and intense, with plenty of energy on the finish.
Winemaker Notes
Ruby red color. Ripe, broad red fruit with an earthy character. Full-bodied and intense on the palate with rich tannins and a long finish.
Food Pairings
Pairs well with fresh egg pastas, risottos, white meats, red meats, venison and cheeses.
Pora Vineyard - "The Dolce Vita Wine"
Proximity to the Tanaro River creates a unique microclimate for the Pora.
A beautiful hill with West and South exposures, while the northern side of the hill is an abrupt bluff that drops into the river and where the famous white truffles can be find on season. Due to the proximity to the valley floor, Pora is relatively warm in the early morning hours, but breezy with slightly higher humidity through most of the day. Soil fertility is slightly higher here and this gives to the wine a smoother character, tannins are soft and the aromas always tend to open up in the early years of life. Pora is also one of the most historical vineyards in Barbaresco, as it was part of the property of Domizio Cavazza, the father of Barbaresco, who in 1894, founded the first Cantina Sociale. Produced as a single vineyard by Produttori del Barbaresco since 1967.
