Winemaker Notes
We see few Savoie wines in Alabama, which is a shame as these are unique wines bursting with airy mountain freshness, minerally grip and vibrant acidity. However, this is a superb example of Roussette de Savoie, an AOC for dry white wines made mainly from the Altesse grape (a.k.a locally as Roussette). This is a late ripening, low yielding grape with excellent acidity and delicious mountain herb aromas. 'Frangy' (named after the village in which it is made) is predominantly Roussette from 50 year old vines with the addition of a little Chardonnay and Mondeuse Blanc from south facing vines grown on limestone soil. The tiny 5 hectare Domaine Lupin is run along organic lines by Bruno Lupin and the award-winning 'Frangy' is the only wine he makes.
A vibrant pale golden in colour. Look for spicy gingerbread aromas with hints of green apple. On the palate, creamy in texture with notes of nougat allied to yeasty flavours from the lees. This is a soft and mellow off-dry white with a whiplash of acidity. Would suit Chardonnay lovers.
Food Pairing
Try with perch, veal escalope or a crayfish salad.
