Varietals: Companion planting of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Beurot, Muscat, & Pinot Noir.
"La longue colline" translates to "The long hill"
95 Points James Suckling
Very pure and pristine, with wonderful citrus freshness and haunting aromas of flint that electrify this on the very focused, medium-bodied palate. Incredibly stony and refreshing finish that's so vibrant and uplifting. Hard to believe this comes from a hot and dry vintage. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold.
92 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2022 Langenberg "La longue colline" is fruit-intense and generous on the saline nose but shows the coolish and flinty tone of wet stones, white asparagus and also wax. Medium-bodied and very dense on the palate, this fleshy-textured Riesling represents the warmth and sun of the vintage. It is an intense and still more edgy and also tannic Riesling that still covers the Langenberg a little bit, but the terroir comes through with its crisp and saline mineral verve and elegance. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.
92 Points Vinous
The 2022 Langenberg is a field blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Muscat and Pinot Noir from this granitic site. Smoke, wood cinder and baked apple notes combine to great aromatic effect. The palate is more slender than the nose suggests, beautifully elongated and direct. This has a smooth touch of apple fruit and a lovely crunch from that phenolic edge. The 2022 has wonderful length, texture, concentration and structure. (Bone-dry)
Winemaker Note
Tasted in the dark:
- "Mental Landscape": fine, pointed, elongated format, higher than wide, testing to the crystalline terroir. Dominant light colors: white, light, reflection, brilliance, gray dry stone... finally gather in the honeysuckle, peppermint.
- Mouthfeel: Very tense, intensely salivating. The fabric of the wine is very fine, taut, the surface shiny, the thread very precise. The salivation is therefore very fine, slightly sandy on the finish, the acidities are lively, very ripe, quite short (granite), but very mineral.
- The port or the energy: the wine, after a short pause, gives itself freely. The energy rises very quickly and culminates in a circumflex accent, with a rather sweet dimension: will be ready quite quickly (3 to 5 years).
