95 Points James Suckling

Plums, red berries, cherries and cedar on the nose. Medium- to full-bodied with fine, creamy, velvet tannins and a long and flavorful finish. A rich wine that shows energy and focus. From organically grown grapes. Needs two or three yeas to come together, but it’s already very juicy and savory.

95 Points Wine Spectator

Deep and multifaceted, this red delivers cherry, blackberry, black currant and violet aromas and flavors. Shaded with wild herb and underbrush notes and backed by a solid structure. This is balanced and long, with plenty of fruit and savory elements on the extended aftertaste.

94 Points Wine Enthusiast

Savory, umami aromas of underbrush, damp earth and sage, like a forest stroll in late fall, with black cherries and plums on the nose. The palate pivots to sweet ripe cherries, strawberries and raspberries, with orange zest, salt and pepper adding nuance, before a hot, fiercely acidic finish. Lots of verve.

93 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The organic San Polo 2021 Brunello di Montalcino, with 40,000 bottles created, opens to a generous and complete bouquet that highlights dark fruit, spice, blue flower, grilled herbs and a hint of freshly cracked white pepper. It shows a faithful expression of Sangiovese and the nuance of the vintage. Fermented in cement and aged for 30 months in oak casks, the wine gains clarity and precision without excessive oak influence. There is good power on the palate with ample momentum through the mid-palate, along with chalky tannins and a dry finish lifted by bright freshness. Fruit is sourced across the Vigneti San Polo with southeast and southwest exposures on limestone and clay soils.

92 Points Jeb Dunnuck

Leaping from the glass, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino has a medium red/garnet hue and offers bright aromatics of pomegranate, candied orange, rhubarb, and dusty earth. The palate is medium-bodied, zesty, and refreshing, with a sanguine edge, finely coiled tannins, and a nervous, youthful energy that firms up through the finish. It should take some time to open and drink best over the next 10-12 years.

Winemaker Notes

Deep ruby in color with evolving garnet highlights, this Brunello opens with a complex and refined aromatic profile. Ripe red fruits—cherry and plum—are layered with hints of blackberry, unfolding into nuanced notes of vanilla, tobacco, leather, and a subtle touch of licorice. The palate is long and persistent, supported by well-defined, finely textured tannins. Thanks to the distinctive soil composition of its origin, San Polo’s Brunello di Montalcino is built for longevity, extended cellaring is recommended as it will to gain complexity with age.

This wine pairs well with highly-structured, flavorful dishes rich in aroma that enhance its complexity and intensity such as Bistecca alla Fiorentina. It also goes excellently with savory first courses, such as pappardelle with wild boar or hare ragù or porcini mushroom risotto. It pairs nicely with aged and flavorful cheeses such as Pecorino Toscano, Parmigiano Reggiano or washed rind and bluecheeses.
