Previously untouched because of access rights, this 4-acre plot on St. Helena’s Western bench is a blue-chip site that Hardin Vineyard Management developed from the ground up—one that rubs shoulders with some of the most celebrated vineyards in Napa Valley. Raw, rocky riverwash from the bordering Sulphur Springs dominates the soil, and afternoon breezes flow down from the Mayacamas through the Heath and Sulphur Canyons, cooling the vines.
Matt spent plenty of time here as a kid, playing in the creek while visiting his grandma’s house on Crane Ave. Both he and Thomas recog­nized its immense potential for wine, and it gave them a chance to dial in every single aspect of a top-quality site, from rootstocks and clones to block layout and sustainable farming. From day one, they’ve tapped decades of combined experience for every decision, focused on craft­ing wines that add to the neighborhood’s pedigree. Matthew Wallace’s Cabernet Sauvignon does just that. It’s the culmination of the time, planning, and hard work Matt and Thomas put into bringing this one-of-a-kind site online.
