The 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard Wadensvil Clone has a spicier nose of pine resin and is lifted and bright on the palate. More linear and focused, it's tension-packed with coiled acidity and persistent drive throughout the palate, as well as more citrus. It's going to age well and deserves another couple of years in the cellar.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard Wadensvil Clone comes from vines planted in 2004. Various percentages of whole clusters were used during fermentation, and the wine was matured in 15% new French oak. It has pure aromas of pomegranate, Earl Grey tea, conifer and bitters. The medium-bodied palate is chalky and refreshing with concentrated, perfumed fruit and an ethereal, spicy finish. 486 cases produced.

The 2022 Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Wadensvil Clone lifts from the glass with a finessed blend of white pepper and rose, offsetting blood orange and wild strawberry hints. This plays with the palate - soft and silky yet tart and zesty with vibrant acidity and juicy wild berry fruit. It finishes pleasantly chewy and long with a coating of gentle tannins and a licorice tinge.
 
Winemaker Notes
We find that Wadensvil has a unique ability to bring red-fruited characteristics, both aromatically and in the flavors, even into environments where darker fruits are far more the norm. This push and pull sort of dynamic within the context of the other facets of the wine’s terroir helps create an extra level of complexity and nuance in the best situations. Certainly, here at Freedom Hill Vineyard, known for dark and powerful wines, this attribute creates a wine unique across the many bottlings we do from this site. While still containing the full textural experience of Freedom Hill this has a sense of calm to it that the wilder wines from here do not have. This is full on and demure at the same time.
