93 Points Tim Atkin
Produced in a year that is often under-rated in Rioja, at least in my opinion, this 2016 Gran Reserva is ageing slowly and gracefully. Partnering Tempranillo, 10% Garnacha and 5% Graciano, it's a still youthful cuvée that combines top notes of mocha, violet and vanilla with a palate of bramble, blackberry and subtle green herbs. 2024-30
92 Points Wine Spectator
Warm spice and licorice notes lace the chopped cherry, green olive, sweet tobacco and vanilla flavors in this well-balanced red. Lightly chewy, with refined tannins and a minerally, tar-tinged finish. Tempranillo, Garnacha Tinta and Graciano. Drink now through 2036.
Winemaker Note
Intense color with lightly brick red hues. Mature fruits ( spices, a backdrop of fine oak and finest leather add elegance and depth of complexity on the nose. Over time it maintains its rich expressiveness without losing intensity while preserving the enjoyable sensations of the wine. An excellent wine of great personality Excellent on the palate, its silky tannin is complemented by a touch of luscious fruit It reveals fullness as well as liveliness on the palate. The aftertaste is lengthy with a softly spicy finish.
