93 Points James Suckling
A stunning, harmonious Chardonnay with aromas of white peach, apricot, honeysuckle, and crushed stones. It’s medium-bodied with bright, crisp acidity and a creamy, layered texture. Long and focused on the finish.
93 Points Decanter
A very pretty nose of jasmine, lemon curd, and white peach. The palate is elegant and fresh, with a lovely weight and texture. It is balanced and poised, showing great energy and a long, mineral-inflected finish.
90 Points Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
The 2019 Chardonnay Breaking Ground was matured for 12 months in 21% new French oak barrels and puncheons, plus an additional five months in stainless steel. It has open-knit aromas of quince paste, papaya, baking spice, honeycomb, and toast. The light-bodied palate is ripe, spicy, and textural with bright acidity and a long, honeyed finish."
Winemaker Notes
Wonderfully effusive notes of bergamot orange, white peach, and lemon thyme greet me in the glass. The interplay of aromas is very engaging; I keep returning to see what scents will arrive next. There is plenty of texture and richness to the wine but all within a taut, structural framework indicative of our cool climate. The finish of this wine is long and smooth.
