The Incognito King: one of the best of all film tropes. The hero or villain runs into an ordinary man, maybe a beggar or common criminal. Later? We learn this commoner is actually someone of nobility and importance... and that they're only disguised so as to walk unseen among the masses! Rostaing's 'Vassal' is perhaps the greatest vinous example. What's N. Rhone royalty (Rostaing's one of the world's greatest Syrah-whisperers) doing in the South? He found a property there a) w/ limestone soils, b) covered in galets roulés (the rounded stones that make Châteauneuf so papal), and c) at 150m higher than Châteauneuf, made for cooler and fresher wines! This is Syrah at its most elegantly Syrahlicious: ripe, spicy and finessed. The King walks among us.
