Blend: 60% Corvina (partial appassimento method), 20% Merlot and 20% Syrah
93 Points from James Suckling
A fresh, fruity wine on the nose with plum and violet aromas that follow through to a medium body, firm, silky tannins and a racy, refined finish. Savory. Corvina, merlot and syrah. Attractive, but needs a year or two to soften.
Winemaker Notes:
The WineThe Pragal comes from the Bertani family estate in the Val d’Illasi, and is a fruity, spicy blend of 60% Corvina, 20% Merlot and 20% Syrah. While the Merlot and Syrah are harvested in September, and vinified immediately, the Corvina is picked in October, and then left to dry for a month (appassimento method) before fermentation on the skins for approximately three weeks. This is followed by fining for six months in large oak barrels, as well as a small amount in barrique. After 6 months of aging in oak, the Corvina is assembled with the Merlot and Syrah before aging briefly in the bottle prior to release.
