2007 California Pre-sales & New Releases

2007 Nickel & Nickel Single Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Pre-Sale
"A few notes about Nickel & Nickel"
Established in 1997 by the partners of Far Niente, Nickel & Nickel is based on a philosophy of producing 100 percent
varietal, single-vineyard wines that best express the distinct personality of each vineyard. It is from some of
the most coveted vineyards in the Napa and Sonoma valleys that the Nickel & Nickel wines are produced.
"We’re not just seeking out any vineyards. Every aspect of each vineyard must be top-notch, including the soil and
the climate, but we also want to know the site is proven ground. We look at who the neighbors are, who is the
vineyard manager, and will that grower be willing to do whatever it takes to make the best of the vineyard,"
says Winemaker and President Darice Spinelli.
In turn, no one wine in the Nickel & Nickel portfolio stands alone. The entire collection of vineyards, and the
single-vineyard wines they produce, make up the whole of the winery. Instead of producing soloists,
Nickel & Nickel has assembled a symphony of some of the world’s rarest and most highly expressive single-vineyard wines.

2007 Orin Swift "Papillon"
90+ points by Wine Advocate
"The 2007 Papillon is a blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest other Bordeaux varietals. It exhibits supple, sweet tannin in addition to lush black cherry and black currant fruit, cedar, toasty new oak, and spice box. The finish suggests that the wine is still somewhat restrained and closed, but promising. It should evolve for 15 or more years."   RP

2007 Ridge Monte Bello Pre-Sale
92 points by Wine Advocate
"The 2007 Monte Bello is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot, 9% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. Its dense ruby/purple color is accompanied by attractive aromas of incense, red and black currants, spice, and forest floor. Much lighter in the mouth with less concentration and texture than the 2006, 2005, and 2003, the 2007 is built along the lines of the 2004. There is a slight lack of intensity in this offering (yields were almost twice as high in 2007 as they were in 2005), but it is a very pretty effort made in a lighter, more elegant, restrained style. It reveals lots of blue, black, and red fruits, medium body, good acidity, and a fine finish. The extremely cold weather in late September as well as the wet October has had an impact on the 2007 in contrast to what happened further north in Napa and Sonoma. While it does not represent a great classic, the 2007 will certainly last 15 or more years.
